Description

Ancient wisdom pulsating through my DNA, as part of my Mexican heritage, gives me the ability to connect the emerging field of bio art with cosmologies that are not included in contemporary systems of knowledge production. I produced a flow of matter through time that can be visualized as an online video, called “Reciprocity”. It is important to create new narratives that contribute to shaping the current production of culture and production of knowledge, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse systems of knowledge in the contemporary art scene.

“Reciprocity” creates new narratives to build new thinking systems to include marginalized voices in the contemporary art scene. “Reciprocity” generates new discourses and narratives that will pave the way for the construction of new systems of thinking that will be inclusive and will be composed of diverse voices, so that the future generations will not be denied their right to exist in the contemporary art system.

The artwork is generated with photographs taken with a light microscope, then manipulated with a graphics editor to create an artwork presented as an online video.

Bio

Audrey Rangel Aguirre is an Interdisciplinary Mexican artist based in England, researching at the intersection of art and science, focusing on artistic intuition to create new systems that belong to the future of human civilization. Currently developing the research project Terras Lux, focusing on the relation between energy on microbial micro ecosystems on soil and the energy on human body.

The core and intellectual structure of her project Terras Lux is energy as electricity produced by microbial ecosystems on soil related with the energy of the human body, she presents soil as a natural source of renewable energy that will be the future technology on future systems for human civilization.

Currently she is creating a body of work that has been developed as the outcome of an ongoing collaboration with the artist and astrobiologist Marta Filipa Simões, exploring her current scientific research on metal nanoparticles and the emergent field of astromycology. The collaboration has originated exciting and interesting projects as the creation of speculative materials developed with fungal resources, as well as photographic documentation, texts, experiments, digital images and has bridged the artist’s current project Terras Lux with notions of astrobiology, situating the project into a vision that connects the microscopic dimension of microorganisms on earth with the macrocosm, the vast universe and space.

Audrey uses creative intuition as a tool to create speculative scenarios that may be a possibility for our nearest future as a society and she entangles it with diverse branches of science of which biology is the current field of research.
